WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018) — U.S. Rep. Luke Messer (IN-06) today issued the following statement about the humanitarian crisis in Eastern Ghouta, outside of Damascus, where hundreds of thousands of Syrians are trapped and in need of aid due to bombing by the Assad regime and Russia.

“The Assad regime, propped up by Russia, continues its barbaric attacks on the men, women and children of Eastern Ghouta in Syria,” Messer said. “I commend the United Nations for voting for a 30-day ceasefire and urge the Syrian government to honor it so supplies can be provided, evacuations made, and hopefully relief can be delivered for the hundreds of thousands experiencing this humanitarian crisis.”

The United Nations passed a resolution Saturday calling for a 30-day ceasefire in Syria, though reports indicate air strikes have continued.
