Rep. Messer Votes to Repeal and Replace Obamacare

Messer: “This is a step away from more government control, and a return to freedom for all Americans”

WASHINGTON (Thursday, May 4, 2017) — Rep. Luke Messer (IN-06) voted today for the American Health Care Act – the bill to repeal and replace Obamacare.

“Today is an exciting day for those of us who have been working and fighting to end Obamacare’s reign over this country,” Messer said. “After six years of promises to Hoosiers, we are moving forward to repeal Obamacare and replace it with something far better. This is a step away from more government control of our healthcare and our day-to-day lives, and a return to freedom for all Americans.”

Messer said the American Health Care Act aims to drive down health care costs and increase options for Hoosiers, while keeping protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

“This bill will make a big difference in the lives of countless Hoosiers who have faced skyrocketing premiums, fewer choices and worse coverage under Obamacare,” Messer said. “Despite the rhetoric, this bill keeps protections for those with pre-existing conditions, which is exactly what we promised we would do.”

Under the American Health Care Act, insurance companies are prohibited from denying coverage or rescinding coverage on the basis of a pre-existing condition, and are prevented from raising premiums on individuals with pre-existing conditions who maintain continuous coverage.

Messer spoke on the House Floor this morning to urge his support for the bill, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives today by a 217-213 vote.
