Messer Announces Winner of 6th District Congressional Art Competition

Winchester student’s artwork will be displayed in U.S. Capitol for one year

WASHINGTON (Tuesday, May 16, 2017) — Rep. Luke Messer (IN-06) today announced the 6th District’s winning entry for the 2017 Congressional Art Competition. This year’s winner, Jaylei Osting, is in 11th grade at Winchester Community High School and is a student of art teacher Dale Hardacre.

Jaylei’s drawing, Ribbon Symphony, received the highest overall score among a panel of judges including local artists, community leaders and representatives from Rep. Messer’s office.  Her piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building throughout the next year, alongside other contest winners nationwide.

“Talented young Hoosiers from all across the 6th District submitted artwork this year, and each piece was outstanding,” Messer said. “I’m excited to see Jaylei’s piece hang in the U.S. Capitol, where visitors from all over the world will be able to see and enjoy it. It will represent our community well.”

High school students across the 6th Congressional District were invited to submit entries for this year’s Congressional Art Competition, which is held each spring to recognize young artists nationwide.
